Bastow and Chye Complete Dental comprises of 45 staff members.

All of our Dentists all graduated from the University of Queensland and belong to the ADA (Australian Dental Association).

Roger Bastow

Since graduating over 20 years ago Roger has become one of the principal dentists in our practice and has played an integral role in developing Complete Dental into the successful practice it is today. He has gained a notable reputation as a gentle and skilled dental operator. Roger has an interest in a broad range of dental procedures and has undertaken post graduate courses to extend his knowledge and experience further.

He particularly enjoys:

  • Cosmetic dentistry including crown and bridge work
  • Dental Implants
  • And has a keen interest in Orthodontics and Oral Surgery

Outside of work his 3 favourite activities include:

  • Family time with his lovely wife and 4 children
  • Fishing/boating
  • & Fishing!

Alvin Chye

Raised in Brisbane, Alvin attended Citipointe Christian College in Mansfield in his primary years, and completed high school at the Anglican Grammar School. He graduated from his Dentistry studies with first Class Honours. In 2006, Alvin commenced working at Complete Dental Wynnum and in 2010 became partner.

He has a gentle caring chair-side manner and takes time to thoroughly explain treatment options for his patients. He is a skilled clinician who is passionate about achieving the best results for each of his patients. You will find Alvin very approachable and a great communicator.

Alvin has completed his Graduate Diploma in conscious sedation and pain control from the University of Sydney which allows him to provide sedation services on our premises.

His particular dental interests include:

  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • All cosmetic dental work, including crown and bridge
  • And enjoys sharing in the success of dental make-over’s with many of his patients

Outside of work his 3 favourite activities include:

  • Spending time with his family
  • Running around playing soccer
  • Watching the footy

Sally Melink

Sally joined our practice in 2013 and already is a valued member of our team in her role as a caring dentist. Her sunny disposition may be due to her history of growing up on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. She aims to help her patients understand the causes behind dental diseases and how to prevent future dental concerns.

Her dental interests include:

  • Preventative dentistry and oral health education
  • Direct restorative options for teeth
  • Helping her patients to maintain their natural teeth

Outside of work:

  • Cooking for family and friends and eating out
  • Exercising and going to the gym
  • Travelling and seeing new places

Grace Bennett

Grace is a caring and gentle dentist who enjoys a good laugh. This can be heard throughout the surgery on the days she is working. She aims to make patients feel comfortable in the dental chair to make informed decisions about their oral health. Grace was born in Brisbane and lived in Perth for some time where she completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine.

Her dental interests include:

  • preventative dentistry for the whole family
  • pediatric dentistry
  • all aspects of restorative treatment

Outside of work:

  • Latin dancing
  • Bush walking and hiking
  • Trying new things

Liam Cosgrave

Dr Liam grew up on the Gold Coast and where he completed his Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science before going on to complete his Graduate Diploma of Dentistry. While passionate about all aspects of dentistry, Dr Cosgrave has special interest in oral surgery, sleep apnoea treatment and prevention care. He continues to further his professional development to ensure he can deliver the highest quality of care to his patients.

At Complete Dental, Dr Cosgrave places great emphasis on his patient’s experience, his easy going nature puts the most nervous patients at ease. He focuses on developing a relationship with his patients so that they feel comfortable to return for a check-up and a catch up.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Cosgrave enjoys staying active playing touch football and golf, binge watching TV shows and travelling.

Lionel Thompson

Lionel brings a relaxed professionalism to his work, and enjoys getting to know his patients. Growing up in Wollongong and having lived in Sydney, Perth, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane he has seen more of Australia than most people, but is hoping to make Brisbane his long term home. His aim is to preserve your teeth throughout your life in the best possible condition.

His dental interest includes:

  • Preventative and general restorative dentistry
  • Oral health education
  • Protective crowns for heavily restored teeth

Outside of work:

  • Sports (basketball, running, swimming)
  • Cooking
  • Reading

Thomas Hogerheyde

A local for nearly 30 years, Tom was born and raised in the Wynnum-Manly region. After completing high school he studied microbiology and postgraduate programs at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. Following these studies Tom completed his graduate degree in Dentistry from Griffith University on the Gold Coast. While Tom enjoys all aspects of dentistry his favourite part of the job is conversing with patients throughout the course of their treatment to put them at ease. He believes in providing patients with all their treatment options, and generally advises minimally-invasive conservative dentistry.

Outside of dentistry, Tom is an avid computer gamer and reader of politics and fantasy. Otherwise he can be found spending time with his girlfriend and two dogs.

 

Anna Truloff

Dr Anna is born and bred In Brisbane. She  completed her Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science before going on to complete her Graduate Diploma of Dentistry.

Dr Anna’s dental interests include Preventative care, restorative dentistry, and providing oral health education to her patients to ensure they are well equipped to care for their teeth. Dr Anna enjoys looking after families. Dr Anna has a gentle and caring chair side manner, and hopes to make coming to the dentist an easy experience for anxious patients. She is dedicated to improving and maintaining her patient’s oral health by keeping herself updated with the latest developments in the dental industry through continued education.

Outside of work, Anna enjoys taking off to the coast to spend time on the beach. She also loves finding new places to eat out, or staying in to watch Netflix with her fiance and cat.

Kate Butler-Howell

Dr Kate grew up in the bustling city of Sydney, where she completed a Bachelor of medical Science at the University of Sydney. Dr Kate made a move to Brisbane to pursue her dream of becoming a dentist and completed her Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science and Masters of Dentistry. Dr Kate is a bright and bubbly person who instantly makes you feel at ease, she is excellent with children and nervous patients. She is passionate about creating a comfortable atmosphere and strives for collaborative relationships, working together to find the best possible treatment for the patient. Dr Kate’s Dental interests are educating patients on their oral health, restorative dentistry, and giving patients conservative treatment options. 

In her own time, Dr Kate enjoys spending her time:

  • Baking delicious foods
  • Walking her dog
  • Playing soccer

Andrea Bayer

Dr Andrea Bayer graduated Dentistry from the University of Queensland in 2011. She started working at Complete Dental after graduating until 2019. Over the last two years, she has been living and working in the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Dr Andrea enjoys helping people. She especially loves offering encouragement to patients who generally avoid dental treatment. Her gentle chair-side manner and personalised approach help her patients feel comfortable. She has a passion for delivering a high standard of dentistry. This inspires her to continue learning and expanding her knowledge.

Andrea and her family are excited to be returning to live in Brisbane. She leads an active lifestyle and enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.

 

Nelson Bayer

Since a very young age, Dr Nelson Bayer has had a passion to be a dental profession. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry which allows him to combine artistic elements and helping people. He takes specific interest in the surgical aspects of dentistry with continued interests and training in implant and aesthetic dentistry.

Nelson has completed multiple degrees in Dental Technology, Oral Health Therapy and Dentistry. Having completed extensive continued professional development course in full mouth rehabilitation, gnathology and surgery, he is also currently enrolled in his masters of Implantology in Germany to be able to provide leading edge knowledge and services to his community.

Outside of his professional life, Nelson enjoys spending time with his young family, watching F1 and travelling the world looking for the best ski alps.

Kay Ball

Oral Health Therapist

After graduating from her Bachelor of Applied Science in Oral Health (UQ) Kay worked initially in an orthodontic practice and with QLD Health in school dental vans before coming to our practice in 2005. Her qualification covers a dual role – Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist.

She loves seeing patients respond to her treatment and education as they come to realise how important healthy gums are to their dental and general health. Kay endeavours to complete a thorough clean with as little discomfort as possible – after all she wants her patients to keep coming regularly for their vital dental cleans! She has completed additional courses relating to orthodontics, local anaesthesia for adults and professional whitening. If you have any teeth whitening questions we often refer you to speak with Kay as she looks after our ZOOM treatments.

Her 3 favourite things outside of work include:

  • Quality time with her wonderful husband and 3 kids including camping
  • Painting when she can
  • Collecting frogs

Julianne Lee

Dr Julianne grew up in the sunny Brisbane, with a passion for people, learning, and art. The culmination of these interests led her to complete the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland where she has served rural and remote populations on her placements. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry, especially her commitment to empathy, kindness, and knowledge in understanding patients and making sure they are at ease, whilst providing high quality dental care. She understands that visits to the dentist can be quite daunting, so she endeavours to create a comfortable and safe environment for all patients, thoroughly explaining all treatment options, oral hygiene instructions, and procedures to patients to ensure optimal outcomes for the patient. She also places importance on the continuous acquisition of new skills and information to optimise treatment for patients.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Julianne enjoys exploring the newest restaurants and cafes, going to the gym, playing the violin, and travelling.

Melinda Ryder

Dental Therapist

As a dental therapist with many years experience, Melinda sees the majority of our young patients (4-18yrs) for their dental treatment. Melinda is a much valued member of our team not only because her patients love her but because she is such fun to have around. When we get together for a meeting – it’s usually Melinda who has an amusing activity organised for us all to share in. She is a real team player and often goes the extra mile to help one of our staff or to provide a scrumptious afternoon tea for us! You will find Melinda to be not only fun-loving but also a calming influence on your child during their dental treatment.

Her 3 top activities include:

  • Helping her great husband with his business
  • Raising 3 active daughters
  • Finding time for a cup of tea & a good book!

Raj Singh

Raj’s experience in Oral Health began with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, which has provided a strong foundation and understanding of dental science. He moved to Australia in 2004 to start a family with his wife who had been raised in Brisbane and joined our practice in 2005 initialy as a dental assistant. Raj then pursued an Advanced Diploma in Oral Health in Adelaide where he received an award for excellence upon graduatiion. He then returned to be part of our team as a Dental Hygienist.

Raj is passionate about producing outcomes in preventative dental care as he is a firm believer in “prevention is better than cure”. He is committed to making his patients experience comfortable and enjoys spending time educating his patients in their individual oral hygiene needs.

During his training in Adelaide he advanced his skills relating to:

  • Orthodontic adjustments
  • Teeth whitening
  • Diligence in periodontal disease management
  • Raj is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi!

Outside of work his favourite activities include:

  • Spending time with wife and raise his energetic young son and daughter
  • Playing tennis
  • Travelling

Rebecca Liedel

I’m a local mum, having been living in Wynnum Manly for the past 20 years.

On graduating school, I first studied Science at QUT. Working overseas in Southeast Asia I returned to Brisbane to study a Bachelor of Oral Health at Griffith University. For the past 13 years I have worked in dental practices in the Bayside and Redlands area.

Her dental interests include:

  • Paediatric dentistry
  • Orthodontics
  • working with the whole family to create positive dental experiences and optimal oral health

Outside of work:

  • Spending time with my family
  • Physical activities in the outdoors
  • Relax with a bookend cup of tea

Michelle O’Connor

Michelle is an Oral Health Therapist with over 25 years of experience in Dentistry.  She started her career as a Dental Therapist working with Children and later completed her studies in Dental Hygiene, so she now cares for people of all ages and also has a degree in Public Health.

Michelle has a gentle and caring nature which helps people of all ages feel comfortable, relaxed and listened to. She loves to show special care to anxious and sensitive people so you can come out of your dental appointment with a smile on your face.

Outside of work she loves:

  • Going on nature walks with her 2 teenage children
  • Listening to Pod casts and audio books on health and wellbeing
  • Tending to her organic vegie garden.

TORI CASTNER

Business Manager

Tori started at the practice in 2013 working as Doctor Bastow’s dental nurse, she has since studied a Bachelor of Human Resources at Griffith University to progress into the role of Practice Manager. She enjoys leading such a positive and passionate team to provide our patients with the best care possible in a fun working environment.

Outside of work:

  • Travelling
  • Drawing
  • Spending time with family and friends
