We celebrate Dental Health Month every August by visiting our community prep and kindergarten groups and by decorating our practice with the dental topic set by the ADA (Australian Dental Association).
It’s a great time to get the message out to our patients and to the broader community about the importance of good dental hygiene and regular dental visits to ensure the best outcomes for a lifetime of strong teeth and healthy gums.
The first full week of August is set aside by the ADA for Dental Health week 5th – 11th . This year’s focus ‘Let’s talk about Gums’, highlights just how critical having a healthy foundation for our teeth is.
Some of the information provided by the ADA includes:
- Half of all Australians think that gum care is less important than caring for teeth
- One in four Australians have gum disease (periodontitis)
- Uncontrolled diabetes is a major risk factor for severe gum disease
- The progression of Gum Disease often sneaks up as there is no pain until it is well advanced. The pain is caused by infection and mobility of the teeth through the loss of supporting bone around the teeth and generally at this stage the tooth will require removal.
- Preventive care includes twice daily toothbrushing and making sure the brush reaches right to where the gum attaches to the teeth
- Daily access between all the teeth with either floss or interdental fine brushes or water flossing
At Complete Dental we are passionate about educating our patients about the importance of really good gum care to ensure the best dental outcomes and to decrease the potential related diseases that affect may affect our entire body. To discuss this in detail please contact us to book an appointment with our dentists or Oral Health Therapists/ Hygienists.
